What’s new
A touchscreen, finally. Apple has resisted touch on the Mac for years. Here, touch is built into the display itself rather than added as a separate layer. You can still use the keyboard and trackpad as before, so touch is an extra, not a replacement.
OLED instead of mini-LED. The Tandem OLED panel gives deeper blacks and very high contrast. Apple quotes 2,000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and regular content, and up to 1,000 nits across the full screen.
A Dynamic Island replaces the notch. Like the iPhone, it houses the camera and shows Live Activities, Spotlight and Siri.
Lighter and thinner. The 14-inch model weighs about 1.38kg and the 16-inch about 1.82kg with the M5 Pro chip, a little less than the previous models.
Tip: The 14-inch M5 Pro model at ₹3,49,900 already includes 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage, which is plenty for most video editors and developers. Only pay for the M5 Max if you work with heavy 3D, 8K video or large AI models.
Should you buy it?
Buy it if you’re a video editor, photographer or designer who wants the best screen Apple has put in a laptop, and you’ll use the touchscreen and OLED panel every day.
Consider the M6 MacBook Pro instead if you don’t need OLED or touch. It starts at ₹2,39,900 with 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, more than ₹1 lakh less, and it’s still a very fast laptop.
Wait if you’re unsure about touch on a Mac. This is Apple’s first attempt, and it’s worth reading the first reviews before you spend this much. Prices also usually drop a little in the months after launch on Amazon and Flipkart.

The bottom line
The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display brings OLED, touch and a Dynamic Island to the Mac for the first time, with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. It starts at ₹3,49,900 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and goes up to ₹6,69,900 for the top 16-inch M5 Max. Pre-orders are open and units reach India on November 9. If you don’t need the OLED touchscreen, the M6 MacBook Pro at ₹2,39,900 is the better value.
