A good power bank costs less than a single phone repair, yet most people pick one by looking only at the mAh number. Capacity matters, but so do the watts, the ports and the weight you’re happy to carry every day. Here’s how to choose, and six power banks worth buying in India right now.

Prices are the lowest we found on major Indian stores and brand sites in October 2026. They change often, especially during sales, so check before you buy. Specs are from the brands’ own spec pages.

Step 1: Pick the right capacity

10,000mAh is enough for most people. It’s light enough for a pocket or small bag and will usually give a mid-range phone roughly one full charge, with a little left over.

20,000mAh suits long travel days, two devices, or heavy users who game or navigate on the go. Expect around two phone charges, but also a heavier, bulkier bank (about 420–490g).

25,000mAh and above is for trips where you won’t see a plug for a while. These are heavy, and you should check the watt-hour (Wh) rating before flying (more on that below).

Remember that the mAh on the box is measured at the battery’s internal voltage. Some energy is lost when the bank converts it for your phone and as heat, so a 10,000mAh bank won’t deliver 10,000mAh into your phone. Treat the number as a rough guide, not an exact promise.

Step 2: Match the watts to your device

Watts decide how fast a power bank charges your phone. Most phones under ₹30,000 charge fast at 18–33W from a power bank that supports USB Power Delivery (PD) or PPS. A higher-watt bank won’t hurt your phone, as the phone only takes what it can handle, but you won’t gain speed either.

Higher wattage starts to matter if you want to charge a tablet or a laptop. Thin laptops usually need 45–65W, and bigger ones need more. Our fast charging explainer covers USB-C PD and charger standards in more detail.

Step 3: Check ports, cable and display

A USB-C port that works both ways (charging the bank and your phone) is now the minimum. Built-in cables are handy because you’ll never forget one at home. A small display showing the exact percentage left is more useful than four LED dots, especially on larger banks.

Also look for the BIS registration number printed on the box or body. Power banks sold in India need it, and it’s a simple way to avoid cheap, unsafe copies sold through random listings.

The best power banks to buy right now

1. Xiaomi Power Bank 4i 10000mAh: best for everyday use

At around ₹1,250 on Amazon and Flipkart, this is the easy pick for daily carry. It has one USB-C and two USB-A outputs, up to 22.5W from a single port, and weighs 280g. It drops to a slower shared speed when all three ports are in use, which is normal at this price. It’s slim at about 1.5cm thick, so it slips into most bags without much fuss.

2. Xiaomi Power Bank 4i 20000mAh: best value 20,000mAh

If you want more capacity on a budget, the 20,000mAh 4i costs around ₹1,900 and supports up to 33W from its USB-C port, enough for fast charging on most phones. It also has two USB-A ports and recharges at up to 30W. At 440g it’s noticeably heavier than the 10,000mAh model, so it’s better for travel than a jeans pocket.

3. Ambrane Stylo Pro 27K: most capacity for the money

The Ambrane Stylo Pro packs 27,000mAh and sells for around ₹2,400 on Ambrane’s own store (sometimes lower with a discount code). It has two USB-A ports and one USB-C output, with fast charging up to about 20W. The trade-offs are weight (513g) and speed: it will take a while to charge your phone and longer still to refill itself. Buy it for long trips, power cuts or a family that shares one bank.

4. Xiaomi Power Bank 5i 20000 67W: best for fast charging

Launched in India in July 2026 at ₹3,499, the 5i now sells for around ₹3,200. It’s the most practical all-rounder here: up to 67W output, a built-in USB-C cable plus a USB-C port and a USB-A port, and a digital display showing battery level and charging status. It also refills itself quickly, at up to 65W. 67W is also enough for many tablets and some thin laptops.

5. Xiaomi Magnetic Power Bank 10000 45W: best for iPhone

If you use a MagSafe-compatible iPhone (or an Android phone with magnetic Qi2 support), a magnetic bank simply snaps onto the back. Xiaomi’s model, priced at around ₹3,700, supports the newer Qi2.2 standard, so it can charge supported phones wirelessly at higher speeds than older 7.5W magnetic banks. It also has a 45W built-in USB-C cable, a fold-out stand and weighs just 238g. A cheaper alternative is the URBN Flux Qi2 MagTag at around ₹3,500, which offers 15W Qi2 wireless and 20W wired charging.

6. Xiaomi Power Bank 20000 165W: best for laptops

This is the one to get if you want to top up a laptop on the move. It launched in September 2026 at an introductory ₹4,999 and costs around ₹5,000 now. One USB-C port gives up to 120W, a second gives up to 45W, and there’s a 22.5W USB-A port plus a braided built-in cable that doubles as a carry loop. A colour screen shows input and output speeds. It’s overkill if you only charge a phone.

Tip: Since early 2026, DGCA rules don’t allow you to use a power bank to charge devices during a flight in India, or to plug one into the seat socket. Carry it in your cabin bag only, never in checked luggage, and keep it out of the overhead bin. Banks up to 100Wh are fine without airline approval, so check the Wh figure printed on large-capacity models before you fly.

The bottom line

For most people, a 10,000mAh bank with USB-C fast charging is the right buy, and the Xiaomi Power Bank 4i 10000mAh does that well for about ₹1,250. Step up to the Xiaomi Power Bank 5i 20000 67W if you want faster charging, a built-in cable and enough power for a tablet. iPhone users should look at a Qi2 magnetic bank, and only buy a 120W-class model like the Xiaomi Power Bank 20000 165W if you really plan to charge a laptop. Whatever you pick, buy from the brand store or a trusted seller and check for the BIS mark.
